Students who got into UDelaware:

Tips mention: Interview (2), ACT/SAT (28), Grades (32), Sports/Extracurriculars (18), College Essay (11)
I transferred and had a GPA of 3Aug 20 2007Geography and Geosciences
I transferred and had a GPA of 3.76 and SATs of 1100/1600. I also had great reccomendation letters and applied to a field that I thought would be easier to get into and then switched it after a semester. They are getting increasingly tougher to get into.
SAT: 1100 Male
They are really good about schmoozing and getting youJul 27 2007Business - Management and Administration
They are really good about schmoozing and getting you excited. The Dean of Admissions is a great marketer.

Once you're in, and dealing with registration, that's a different story. You are a number and I don't care what they say!
SAT: 1320 Female

As parents, and former alums of the University ofApr 26 2007Business - Management and Administration
As parents, and former alums of the University of Delaware, we were very concerned about safety at this institution. Our son, an Honors student, who was admitted to the Business School, attended there for 2 ½ years. We transferred him this past January to another college further south.

The City of Newark, and the University of Delaware, is perhaps one of the few places where the “Townies” are actually worse than the students. The major issue is crime, particularly against students. It is truly an unsafe place. Here is just a small, yet recent sample of crimes below.

The University is very intertwined with the City of Newark. For instance, if your son or daughter plays his or her stereo too loud, the City will charge them – with a crime! In addition, the University Judicial Affairs Office receives the tickets from the City and will count this as a “strike” against the student. Three strikes, you’re out. Suspended for a year. The University will post a permanent, negative notation on the transcript stating “withdrawn by the university” and it will stay there forever. Rather draconian, don’t you think?

They also have a zero tolerance towards alcohol which applies to the 3 strikes rule, which is understandable to a point. The University receives a $1 million Grant each year from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. To keep receiving this Grant, many students become sacrificial lambs. Hence they get suspended from the University with the same negative notation. Their tactics are punishment, not counseling or treatment.

We urge you to pass this on to students considering their admission status with Delaware. There are safer schools. We will certainly NOT send our daughter there! And do not listen to Admissions whose job it is too play the safety concerns down and get your kid to accept.

There are many crimes, particularly robbery of students, which do not get reported. We are very disappointed with Delaware and it is a shame.

I don't know about that other guy with a 2Mar 26 2007Political Science
I don't know about that other guy with a 2.99 and 1100 SAT, I had a 3.4 and 31 ACT and I got waitlisted.

They look not only at your GPA but your transcript at all of your classes. If you have any grade below a B, be sure to have a reason or you'll get waitlested. I got in after being on the waitlist after petitioning professors and the admissions office with extra letters of recommendation. Be sure to let them know how much you want to go here, they're looking to boost yield, so that definitely helps.
ACT: 30 Male

Both of my parents went so I was consideredJan 25 2007Unknown
Both of my parents went so I was considered a Double Del which gave me the same consideration as an "in-state" student. Just don't go here, it isn't worth it. It isn't safe despite what Admissions will tell you.
